Rituals & Ceremonies

Honouring life, love, and transition with gentle, personalised ceremony.

Overview

Rituals and gentle ceremonies can bring meaning, connection, and comfort during times of change. They help families pause, honour a person’s story, acknowledge carers, or create a sacred space at end of life. All ceremonies are created in consultation with the family, culturally respectful, and tailored to the person’s values, beliefs, and personality.

These offerings sit alongside your dementia doula support — adding emotional depth, legacy, and beauty to the practical care work already happening.

Life Story Celebration or Remembrance Ritual

Duration: 2–3 hours | Fee: $400–$500 plus travel if applicable

A warm, intimate gathering to celebrate a person’s life, values, and relationships — either while they are still present (a “living celebration”) or as a remembrance after death. Held at home, in aged care, in hospice, or a garden setting, this ceremony brings together stories, music, and sensory elements to honour the whole person.

  • Pre-ceremony planning with family or key support people
  • Guided storytelling and sharing circle
  • Use of sensory prompts: music, flowers, meaningful objects, scent
  • Optional readings, prayers, poems, or cultural/spiritual elements
  • Candle-lighting or memory jar activity
  • Personalised ceremony script and keepsake outline for the family

Why it matters: It creates connection, closure, and legacy — allowing family and friends to celebrate a life while the person is still here, or to gather in a gentle, non-clinical way after passing.

Carer Blessing Ceremony

Duration: 2 hours | Fee: from $400

A restorative, heart-centred ritual to acknowledge the love, labour, and quiet grief of family carers. This ceremony offers a safe space to be witnessed and affirmed, often in the home or a community space.

  • Pre-ceremony conversation to understand the carer’s journey
  • Guided meditation, breath, or grounding practices
  • Affirmation or blessing circle (for one carer or small group)
  • Symbolic “laying down of burdens” ritual (stones, flowers, or water)
  • Optional aromatherapy hand/shoulder massage
  • Keepsake affirmation card or message

Why it matters: Carers are often unseen. This ceremony says: “We see you. You are doing something sacred.” It also strengthens family relationships around the caring role.

End-of-Life Vigil Ritual

From $500 (ceremony setup and facilitation) + optional hourly vigil support

A gentle, sacred space created around the bedside during the final days or hours of life. This ritual invites calm, presence, and meaning — with soft music, lighting, and personal touches chosen by the family.

  • Planning visit with family to understand wishes and cultural/spiritual needs
  • Creating a peaceful “sacred space” with photos, lighting, flowers, or meaningful objects
  • Optional guided relaxation or breath support for family
  • Readings, prayers, or music chosen by the person/family
  • Supportive presence to help family feel confident and at ease

Why it matters: Families often say this kind of presence is “priceless” — it helps them stay connected, less afraid, and more able to focus on love.

Legacy & Memory Projects

Customised | From $300

Creative, collaborative projects that help capture a person’s stories, messages, and memories. These can be completed with the person living with dementia, or created as a gift for the family.

  • Memory boxes with labelled objects and stories
  • Life story or “This Is Me” booklets
  • Audio or video recordings (songs, messages, stories)
  • Photo albums with captions and family history
  • Creative legacy pieces (recipes, playlists, artwork)

Why it matters: Legacy work gives families something to hold onto — a bridge between generations, and a way to keep the person’s voice and story alive.
