About Gin
Walking beside you with clarity and compassion
Hi, I’m Gin, founder of Rainbow Region Dementia Doula. My journey into dementia and end-of-life care started not in a classroom, but through personal experience. When my husband's mother was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer, we were told she had six months to live. She ended up living for six more years, receiving care in her own home, surrounded by compassion and dignity. That experience had a lasting impact on me and set me on the path to supporting others in similar situations.
For over 15 years, my husband and I ran the Home Instead East Brisbane and Brisbane South & Ipswich franchises, providing in-home aged care, with a strong focus on dementia care. During that time, I trained caregivers and found my passion for helping them see the person behind the diagnosis. Dementia care isn’t just about managing symptoms - it’s about restoring connection and understanding the emotional journey that families go through.
Living in Japan as a high school exchange student also shaped my views on end-of-life care. I lived with a multi-generational family, and when the grandmother passed away, it was a deeply communal experience. That contrasted sharply with the more institutionalised experience of my Australian grandmother’s passing, which was a lonely time for her. It’s these experiences that guide my mission for compassionate and respectful care for older Australians.
After selling our business, my husband and I moved to the beautiful Rainbow Region of Northern NSW to live off-grid, embracing nature and community. It was here that I rediscovered my calling: to provide one-on-one care as a dementia doula.
As a certified dementia doula & member of Dementia Doulas International, I walk beside families and individuals through the complex, often overwhelming journey of dementia and end-of-life care. My approach is warm, practical, and centred around the person. I’m here to offer calm reassurance, clear guidance, or just a space to breathe and be.
I truly believe everyone deserves to be seen, understood, and supported through this journey. My mission is simple - to ensure no one walks this path alone, and that they do so with clarity, compassion, and dignity.
